Alistair Overeem's apology

Hi there again everyone,
As you have possibly seen or heard, Alistair Overeem had to be removed from the UFC:146 line-up due to failing a drug test. He has come out publicly and apologised to everyone from the UFC, Dana White, Junior Dos Santos and the fans for what has transpired.
Here is what he had to say...

“To my friends and fans,
I am deeply saddened to announce that on Friday, April 20, I respectfully withdrew from the May 26 event so that I can request a continuance until my situation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is resolved.

I cannot express how sorry I am to the Commission, Junior Dos Santos, the fans, the owners and employees of the UFC, my friends and family and anyone else who this has affected.

I absolutely do not believe in, nor do I use performance-enhancing drugs. I am a clean fighter and I will do whatever it takes to prove this to everyone.

Prior to the UFC 146 press conference in March, I aggravated an old rib injury on my left side. My doctor prescribed, and I accepted, an anti-inflammatory medication that was mixed with testosterone. I was completely unaware that testosterone was one of the ingredients in the medication. Although I was unaware, I do realize it is my job to know what I am putting into my body.

I respect the Nevada Commissioners and Executive Director Keith Kizer and what they are doing to keep the sport of mixed martial arts regulated and safe for athletes. I look forward to working with them in the days and weeks ahead.

Friends and fans, I ask for your patience as I work through this matter. Please support me. I promise to return to the Octagon soon.”

I don’t honestly know what to think of this. I mean, I can read where it says that he didn’t know about the ingredients but surely, when you know what the sport is and what precautions it takes, surely that’s the first thing you would check. I would’ve thought so anyway. I’m still out on this one. And although he may not be able to fight, it has opened the door for one of my favorites, Frank Mir, to step up and challenge for the title. Open-mouthed smile Awesomeness!

Let me know what you think of the situation. I’d love to hear from you all….

Anyway, that is all from me for now.
Lil xoxo

Update on UFC 146

Hi there people,
As I wrote on my last blog entry, it was my understanding that Frank Mir was stepping in to replace Alistair Overeem in the main event at UFC 146.

Original Announcement
However, two days later, Dana wrote this on his Twitter page....

Dana White's twitter response
Then today I found this while searching on his facebook page....
Dana White's Facebook status
So my assumption from all this is that Frank Mir is challenging Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 for the Heavyweight title and Cain Velasquez is fighting Antonio Silva. Still.....
YAY! Super stoked that Frank Mir gets a chance to win what is rightfully his (guess whose a fan?) and to show the world who the best in UFC is! Yahoo!!!!!!
Anyway, that is all from me for now.
Till next time,
Lil xoxo
